Family Coliidae

Mousebirds are unique to the African continent. Of our three species, Red-faced is the most common, found almost throughout the region, excluding higher altitudes such as the Drakensberg and the Zimbabwe Eastern Highlands. Speckled are found mainly in the East of the region, crossing over with White-backed in the Cape. White-backed tend to be common in the arid areas such as the Kalahari.
