Experiences with species

4th June 2016 has to go down as one of the best days of my life - we'd spent a good few hours out in heaving swells, with two great sightings of White-faced Storm Petrels. Things were starting to die down when this dark floppy bird with bowed wings comes careening towards the boat. SOOTY ALBATROSS!! both David and I screeched. Rich went absolutely beserk shouting WOAH, BLACK BETTY!!! and skipping around the deck. A bird we had never in our wildest dreams thought we'd get off Durban.

Other names: Dark-mantled Sooty Albatross

Ranges: Resident Breeding Non-breeding Migratory Uncertain
