Slender-billed Prion Pachyptila belcheri (30)
(Dunbekwalvisvoël)
Experiences with species

On one of our pelagic trips out of Durban, a shout of PRION! went up, as a single bird came in to the chum. We photographed what we could of the bird to have a good look later - we assumed, as Prions are so uncommon off Durban, that it would be the more common off South African coasts, i.e. Antarctic Prion. Once photos were analysed, we realised we had something far better!
