Experiences with species This was one of the highly unexpected sightings of our trip. We were walking down the beach towards the fishing village, where there were a lot of Common Terns flying around looking for an easy meal. We were scanning the seas as we went, just in case something out of the ordinary popped up. I decided to scan behind us, and became aware of a large black shape over my head. FRIGATEBIRD! Pieter was also on the beach and quickly summonsed his father, uncle and aunt, so all of us got to see the bird. As we were just spending the evening at the camp and were leaving very early the next morning, I had decided to leave my camera in the car. Fortunately Pieter brought his across the river, and managed to get a few shots in the failing light. In 2016 I went out on mini pelagic from Inhambane, and finally managed to get some photos of the birds. Other names: - |
