Rufous-chested Sparrowhawk Accipiter rufiventris (155)
(Rooiborssperwer)
Experiences with species

I battled to set eyes on this raptor. After brief view of a probable one flying over Woodbush forest in 2007, followed by another good canditate near Fishhoek in the Cape in 2008, finally I got a conclusive view, after Lisa emailed and said the chances were good, they were nesting on their property. Almost a year later we returned, and were privileged to watch the male building his nest, showing the extreme energy and effort he puts in to breaking off the branches to make the nest.
