Experiences with species This small bird scuttled across the road in front of our game vehicle, with tiny youngsters in tow. She hid them under a shrub and walked to the next one, to distract attention from them - getting very aggitated when a Bateleur flew over. When atlasing Madikwe in May 2008, these birds were all over the place, as were Harlequin and Common Quails. They have a very striking pale eye, which is a good identifying feature. Other names: Hottentot or Small Buttonquail, Andalucian Hemipode |
