Little Crake Porzana parva
Experiences with species

A pelagic trip that was likely to be aborted due to adverse weather had me a little despondent, however at 17h00 the evening before our departure, we received word of a first for Southern Africa, a Little Crake, at Clovelly in the Cape. This was a hop and a skip from where we were staying, timing could not have been better. As far as Porzana Crakes go, this was the most obliging I had yet seen, as they are normally skulkers of note. As I type this, over 300 people had scrambled from all over the country to get to see this extreme vagrant to our region.
