Experiences with species This bird had been around the Swakop River mouth for a while, we happened to be on a trip through Namibia, and stopping in Swakopmund. We found the bird fairly easily, but to be happy, I wanted to see it fly to confirm it was not just an odd looking Grey Plover. (Which has black armpits in flight.) Eventually a flock of Whimbrels flew up and the bird flew with them, giving a conclusive ID. Three years later I finally saw one in South Africa, and managed some slightly better shots than the horrible blurred image from Namibia. Other names: - |
