Pacific Golden Plover Pluvialis fulva (253)
(Asiatiese Goue Strandkiewiet)
Experiences with species

This was one of those mad days - Friday afternoon - Kevin says - change of plans! We drove down to Richards Bay, found a Crab Plover, then on to Muzi Pan for a vagrant Pacific Golden Plover. We were fortunate enough to find 4 individual birds, the other reports were of a single bird. They are distinguished from the American Golden Plover by the grey "armpits" and the feet extend beyond the tail in flight. It now has the distinction of being one of the crazier "twitches" I've done as we about turned and shot 300km off from Babalala Picnic site in Kruger Park to Den Staat wetlands to tick it for my 2011 year list! #811 it was.
