Baird's Sandpiper Calidris bairdii (278)
(Bairdstrandloper)
Experiences with species

I'd missed out on twitches of this rarity, either being too late on getting the news in the early days, not being available to get across the country, or arriving home to find the bird hadn't been seen again on the morning I was preparing to spend some of those ZAR's! I'd finally got it's other American cousin, White-rumped Sandpiper in Feb of 2020, shortly before all COVID hell broke loose. When this pitched up and I had a few things to do during the few days leading up, I was a bit panicky! I was extremely happy to see news that it was there on Tuesday morning, bought a ticket, and rushed off to the airport, to be greeted at the site by friends who called me over to look through their scopes. A great day!
