Franklin's Gull
August 2008 Centurion Lake, Gauteng Adult

Experiences with species

Sitting innocently at my desk, getting some backlog cleared up after my recent 2 week Mozambique trip, I get a phonecall from Kevin Ravno. "Drop everything and run!". This Gull had pitched up at Centurion Lake, which is about 25km from my office. Needless to say, I was there in quarter of an hour. The Gull sat for all to see on the island, you didn't even need binoculars. 5 minutes later it flew off, as people were still arriving. It was however back the next morning and we went to see it and try and photograph it. It was further off, but all got good views. This was the second record of this species for Gauteng!
