Mangrove Kingfisher Halcyon senegaloides (434)
(Manglietvisvanger)
Experiences with species

My first sighting of a Mangrove Kingfisher was in May, at Mtunzini. It moves into this area in winter, so our timing was right. We hired a guide who took us to a couple of spots, eventually we found one, calling in the trees over the river. Another couple with a guide had gone the route we went on foot and still hadn't found it, after Jotham told their guide where it was they decided to fetch the car! Another bonus while looking for the Kingfisher was a couple of Palm-nut Vultures flying overhead.

In Mozambique, we crossed the river at Rio Savane and as we got out of the boat there was one being mobbed by a Pied Kingfisher. A day later we saw one sitting on the beach!
