Souza's Shrike Lanius souzae (734)
IUCN Red list status: Least Concern
(Souzase Laksman)
Experiences with species

The first time I saw Souza's, we walked for quite a few hours in the Summer sun before finding it. We saw Square tailed Nightjar on its nest, Rufous bellied Tit and Ayres Hawk Eagle while doing so. My second attempt was 2 years later, very near to the same spot, a pair with a very vocal youngster. Being a much sought after bird, I took my friend Reg to see the bird in 2011, with our respective spouses. Debbie and Theresa spotted a Shrike, and were looking at it, with Reg going nuts not able to see what they were looking at. It all ended well, fortunately!
