Experiences with species The reported discovery of this bird in our region happened to co-incide with a trip that was already planned to the Kunene region. Some rapid reshuffling of the itinerary and planning together with Pete Morgan at Kunene River Lodge meant we had a day put aside to attempt to see the bird. It meant possibly sitting in scorching sun in unforgiving habitat, but these are sacrifices we were prepared to make! Starting our effort shortly after 7 AM, we scanned in vain, eventually hearing the bird call at around 9, before spotting it amongst the large boulders. It was very active, causing some anxious moments as three of us had spotted the bird, with another four still to get onto it. The flight shots give an idea of how quickly it moves between boulders.
