Experiences with species These Cranes breed down in the Cape, but winter up around the Free State and Gauteng, when large flocks can be seen congregating - in the Free State often with Grey-crowned Cranes, and occasionally we get a lucky sighting of a Wattled Crane in amongst the flock.
