Purple-crested Turaco Tauraco porphyreolophus (371)
(Bloukuifloerie)
Experiences with species

This Lourie, or Turaco as it is now known, is a noisy bird of forest canopies, as are it's cousins, the Knysna, Livingstone and Schalow's Turacos. It is heard far more often than seen, particularly in coastal Natal, as it's name used in the original Roberts suggests.

Other names: Violet-crested Turaco, Purple-crested Lourie or Natal Purple-crested Lourie (Northern Mozambique species was considered a different race)
